For those who may be new to camp we say “Come along, no need to be anxious, we make a special effort to help campers relax into the holiday spirit and make new friends.Everyone at camp understands about living with diabetes, and no one lets that get in the way of having fun, getting active, having a go at some adventure activities as well as having time to chill out and chat with new and old friends."For many in this age group a ‘sleepover’ away from family and friends can be a daunting prospect. With this in mind we invite a parent or other caregiver to stay for the weekend and join in the camp program. One worker said that little of the money had been spent to ease the strain on frontline staff."It gives us no relief all, it just grows that hopelessness, I suppose, that there's just more people to answer to about how we can't achieve what we're supposed to achieve," they said."They tie up their money and resources in management and roles that don't directly assist with the investigation, assessment and safety planning for children." The workers believe the new staff have just added a layer of bureaucracy and question the priorities of management.Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma rejected that suggestion, saying she had "full confidence in the manager and staff"."Those who manage and work in Child Safety Services are committed, first and foremost, to the wellbeing of vulnerable children," Ms Petrusma said in a statement."To date, 12 [full time] positions have been added to the frontline as part of the redesign."While the minister and the department strenuously deny the allegations, the union representing the workers is hearing similar stories from other staff.
