Anne Bancroft and Hunter are stellar, and Mc Dermott is darned cute (the making-out-on-the-doorstep scene is darling). The director's commentary by Foster gives a clue that he was frustrating to work with, but it seems very worth it here.

“We have both dated other people following the separation, but neither of us is ready to announce anything in terms of another relationship,” the statement, via People magazine, said.
